Difference between course based and thesis based master

What are your stories? How does one decide which route to take? I am considering starting a Masters of Education but am having difficulty deciding between a course and thesis-based program.

Will it be the project route, or the thesis route? Another primary reason for going project over thesis was the opportunity for creativity.
